Preparation

Step 1

Scald milk and cool.

Dissolve yeast in warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar added to it.

In large mixing bowl cut oleo into flour and salt until crumbly.

Beat 1/3 cup sugar into egg yolks. Add scalded milk and mix. Pour yeast mixture into that mixture and then dump it all into the flour and oleo mixture. Stir well.

Put in refrigerator overnight or let set about 2 hours before working up. Take out and divide into halves. Pound each half about 10 times with your knuckles. Roll out to about 1/4" thick and about 8" square.

Spread with soft oleo and sprinkle with about 2 handfuls of sugar and some cinnamon. Roll up and cut into 9 equal pieces and place into buttered jelly roll pan. Then do the same with the other half. Flatten and spread them out a little with your fingers when you put them in the pan.

Let rise about 1 hour and then bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes; do not overbake. (Note: I have found the rising process can take several hours.)

Make icing of powered sugar, oleo and milk.
