Ingredients

  • Icing:
  • 2 c warm water
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 2 pkgs active dry yeast
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 c flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 c shortening
  • 4 c flour
  • melted butter
  • 1 c brown sugar, divided
  • 1 c chopped nuts
  • 1 c confectioners' sugar
  • 2 T milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Combine water, sugar and yeast; stir until dissolved. Add salt, 2 c flour; beat 2 minutes with electric mixer. Add eggs and shortening; beat 1 minute. Work in about 4 cups flour. Cover, let stand until double.

Punch down and let raise again.

Using half of the dough, roll dough to 9x18 rectangle. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with 1/2 c brown sugar and 1/2 c nuts.

Roll up like a jelly roll and seal. Place sealed edge down on greased baking sheet. Join ends to make a circle and seal. With scissors cut at 1 inch intervals almost to center of ring.

Cover; let rise in a warm place for 40-45 minutes. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes. While warm frost with icing.
