Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Dutch cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 sticks butter
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream, room temp
  • Chocolate ganache frosting

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Whisk together cocoa and hot water until smooth. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Melt butter and sugar together in saucepan (or in microwave on lo heat). Stir to combine. Pour into a mixing bowl, and beat until cooled on low speed, 4-5 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, then add vanilla. Add cocoa mixture, beat well. Add flour mix in 2 batches, alternating with sour cream. Mix well.
Bake 18-20 minutes. Make sure not to overfill pans, only 3/4 full.
To top: spread ganache frosting on top.
