Ingredients

  • 12 oz firm tofu
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil, [1 tbsp is plenty IMO]
  • 4 oz ground beef, [you can leave out the meat altogether]
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 leek, cut into short sections
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp black bean sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili bean sauce (chili garlic sauce or chili paste are acceptable substitutes)
  • 3 tbsp chicken broth (or veggie broth or water if you want to make it vegetarian) (3 to 4)
  • 2 tsp cornstarch paste (mix of 3:1 water to cornstarch)
  • few drops sesame oil
  • black pepper to taste

2 tsp cornstarch paste (mix of 3:1 water to cornstarch)

This was great! I'm never sure of whether I'm using the right Asian condiments - I used chili-garlic paste and black bean-garlic sauce. I omitted the salt, used about 1/4 cup broth and no cornstarch, a 14-oz pkg of tofu 2 cloves of garlic, only 1 tbsp oil, and turkey instead of ground beef. Adding more veggies would be good, will do that the next time. Would probably also try not boiling the tofu ahead of time -not sure it did that much to it.
