    box yellow(or white) cake mix

  • 1

    16-24 ounce can of crushed pineapple

  • 1

    8 ounce tub of cool whip

  • 1/2

    cup sliced almonds or other nuts of your choice.(may also be made without

  • 1

    box instant vanilla or white chocolate pudding mix

  • 1

    cup sugar.

Directions

Follow instructions on box of cake mix and bake according to directions. While cake is in the oven, make pudding according to "easy 5 minute" directions and mix in all of the Cool Whip AFTER it starts to get firm. Put in fridge. Also while cake is baking, mix pineapple and sugar together in saucepan and bring to boil, then remove from heat. When cake is done, take out of the oven and poke holes ALL throughout. (I use the handle of a wooden spoon) Pour the pineapple/sugar mixture as evenly as possible over the cake. It helps to pour the liquid on the cake first, then the pineapple. It goes more evenly that way. Put cake in the fridge for about an hour to cool. Once cool, spread pudding/cool whip mixture onto top, then sprinkle almonds on top. **Variation If you mix a box of strawberry jello gelatin in with the pineapple, it gives the cake a very summery flavor and makes it a little more firm.
