Straits Sling

According to cocktail historian Ted Haigh, the dry, refreshingly bitter Straits Sling originated at the Long Bar of Singapore's Raffles Hotel around 1915. It was reformulated into the sweeter, more tropical Singapore Sling sometime between 1922 and 1930.

Ingredients
- Ice
- 2 ounces gin
- 1/2 ounce kirsch (cherry eau-de-vie)
- 1/2 ounce Bénédictine (brandy-based herbal liqueur)
- 2 dashes of orange bitters
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
- 1 1/2 ounces chilled club soda
- 1/4 orange wheel
- 1 brandied cherry

Preparation
Step 1
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the gin, kirsch, Bénédictine and both bitters and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled collins glass. Stir in the chilled club soda and garnish with the orange wheel quarter and the brandied cherry.
