Fresh Tomato Gratin Stew

Ingredients
- 4 Tbs. butter
- 4 lbs. tomatoes, cored and sliced about 1/2"thick
- Coarse sea salt or kosher salt
- Pepper
- 1 1/2 About 1 1/2 c. heavy cream
- 2 c. fresh bread crumbs
- 2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme, or 1 tsp. dried thyme

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Grease bottom and sides of 1 1/2 qt. baking dish with 1 Tbs. of the butter. Reserve another Tbs. Place layer of tomato slices in dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and dot with some of the remaining 2 Tbs. butter. Continue layering until all tomatoes are used. Press down firmly on final layer. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; dot with butter. Pour cream over the tomatoes until it starts showing along the sides.
Melt the reserved Tbs. of butter in a skillet. Stir in the bread crumbs and toss to coat with the butter. Stir in the thyme. Season. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour until top is browned.
