Ingredients

• 2 cups brown sugar
• 1 cup shortening
• 3 eggs
• scant teaspoon soda
• 4 cups flour sifteed
• Pinch of salt
• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs, and mix.

Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixtture.

Chill dough. Then divide into two parts, roll 1/4 inch thick and spread with filling.

Bake 350 degrees till done, about 10 minutes.

Filling:

1/2 cup sugar,
1/2 cup water,
8 oz. dates chopped

Cook util thick then add 1 cup nuts.

Let cool slightly before spreading on dough.
