Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 egg whites
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- Frosting:
- 1 stick butter
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cup coconut
- 1 pound powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preparation
Step 1
Cake:
Mix shortening, sugar and egg whites well. Add flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Add remaining ingredients. Bake in 18" x 12" sheet pan at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Frost immediately.
Frosting:
Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Heat just enough to melt. Pour on cake while cake is still hot.
