Protein Bars

Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups regular or quick oats (regular oats are okay)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered non-fat milk
- 12 ounces Pure Protein Whey Rich Chocolate protein powder (or brand of choice)
- 1 cup reduced calorie fructose-sweetened pancake syrup
- 2 egg whites, slightly beaten with a fork
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup natural unsweetened applesauce

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 325 F. Mix the dry ingredients together. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well to incorporate. The consistency will be similar to a stiff cookie dough.
Spray a 9×12 baking dish with non-stick spray and spread the dough evenly. Bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 15 minutes. Do not overbake.
Cut into 10 bars. When cool, wrap tightly in plastic wrap then store in the refrigerator.
Per bar: 140 calories; 23g carbohydrate; 15g protein; 0.5g fat.
Note: If you are careful to get most of your ingredients on sale and find whey protein powder for about $.70 an ounce. You should be able to make these bars for about $.85 each.
