Ingredients
- Royal Icing:
- 1 1/2 C ( 3 sticks) unsalted butter,m softened
- 1 C sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 t vanilla t vanilla extract
- 4 1/2 C flour
- 1/2 t salt
- 3 large egg whites
- 1 lb 10x sugar

Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, beat butter & sugar at high speed until fluffy.
Beat in egg & vanilla.
At low speed, beatin flour & salt in 2 portions.
Divide dough in half; shape into 2- 1/2" thick disks.
Wrap each in plastic wrap; chill until firm.
Preheat oven to 375*.
Roll dough to 1/8" thickness.
Cut into shapes & place on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake 7-10 minutes or until set.
Cool on rack.
Icing:
Beat 3 large egg whites & 1- lb 10x sugar at high speed for 7 minutes, until thick.
For spreading: thin some icing by gradually adding water.
Tint thick & thin icings with food color.
