Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. cold butter
- 4 tsp. baking cocoa
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- 2 c. buttermilk

Step 1
Combine flour and sugar in a large bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Set aside 1 1/4 c. of this mixture to use as a topping.
To the remaining mixture, stir in the cocoa, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Add nuts. Add buttermilk and stir just until moistened.
Pour into a greased 9x13" pan. Sprinkle with reserved topping. Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees or until cake tests done. Serve warm.
