  • Brownies
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs PA Preferred
  • 3/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • Carmel Topping:
  • Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream PA Preferred
  • 14 oz. caramels
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon Kosher salt

Preparation

Step 1

Grease 9 X 13 pan
Place butter in large microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave at medium for 2 to 2 ½ minutes or until melted.
Stir in sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well with a spoon after each addition. Add cocoa; beat until well blended.
Add flour, baking powder and salt, beat well. Stir in ¾ cup pecans, if desired.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Let cool.

Carmel Topping:
In medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, caramels and cream.
Stirring frequently until mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
Spread evenly over brownie base and sprinkle with remaining pecan
s. Cool completely. Sprinkle top of caramel with additional salt right before serving. Cut in squares and then into triangles.
