A twist on traditional baklava--no honey, and made into crinkled rolls

  • 1 stick butter--melted
  • 1 lb phyllo dough
  • 1 lb walnuts--ground in a blender or food processor
  • 1 c sugar
  • 2 t cinnamon

Step 1

**make sure that you keep the dough covered with a slightly damp towel while working with it--it will dry out very quickly if it is not covered.

mix ground walnuts, sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl. place melted butter in a small bowl and set aside.

place a sheet of dough lengthwise on your working surface-drizzle a small amount of melted butter along the edge (a teaspoon or pastry brush works well)

sprinkle a line a walnut filling along buttered edge, and with a dowel stick, roll dough. Once rolled all the way, push both ends towards the middle gently to "crinkle". Remove dowel and roll into a spiral. place on lined baking sheet and continue with the remaining dough.

bake at 375 until golden brown 10-15 minutes
