Hints from Heloise - How to remove nail polish from slacks
By Hklbrries
Dear Heloise: Is there any chance of removing clear nail polish from one of my favorite pairs of slacks? I’ve tried nail-polish remover and then laundering, with no success. Any suggestions?

Spilled nail polish can be a real pain! The nail-polish remover you tried on the stain probably was nonacetone, which is too gentle to truly “lift” the nail polish from the fabric. Go to a beauty-supply shop or drugstore and pick up pure acetone; test it in a small, concealable spot for discoloration. Then place the stain face down on paper towels and gently sponge over the stain before laundering. Be sure the stained fabric does not contain triacetate or acetate; if it does, you can use only amyl acetate to treat it so the fabric doesn’t disintegrate.
