Ingredients

  • 2 (2-qt) bottles apple cider
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. brown sugar (to taste)
  • 1 T. whole allspice berries
  • 1 T. whole cloves
  • 3-4 whole cinnamon sticks
  • Fresh strips of lemon peel
  • 1/2 of an orange
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • Fresh grated nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

Pour 2 (2-qt) bottles apple cider into dutch oven. NOTE: you can use either the cheap cider from grocery section of store, or the more expensive one that is refrigerated; either is fine.

Wrap spices in cheesecloth and secure with cooking twine. Put in pot with spices. Add orange and lemon peel.

Heat for at least 30 minutes before serving. You may wish to remove the spices after a couple of hours, as the flavor continues to get stronger.

OPTION: Place all ingredients in crockpot on high for about three hours.
