Ingredients
- 3 c sliced almonds
- 1 stick unsalted butter softened
- 1 1/2 c sugar
- 1/3 c water
- 1 T fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 t salt
- 6 ozs. bittersweet chocolate

Preparation
Step 1
. Toast nuts 10 minutes, stirring at five minutes, finely chopped
. In a heavy saucepan bring butter, sugar, water, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly for 12 minutes
. remove from heat and stir in 2/3rds of the almonds
. Pour toffee immediately onto baking sheet and spread out wit a offset spatula into a thin layer and cool on a rack
. Melt the chocolate and spread over toffee, sprinkle the chopped nuts across the chocolate and toffee
. Chill uncovered for 1 hour until firm, break into 2" pieces, store between waxed paper in a airtight container at room temperature or chilled. Keeps for one week
