Preparation
Step 1
Chill 1 cup apple juice in the refrigerator for about 1 hour. After the 1 cup of apple juice has been in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes, you’ll need to make the hot apple juice. To make hot apple juice, you’ll need your adult helper. Ask your adult helper to guide you while you put 3 cups of apple juice into a saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove top over medium high heat. Stir the apple juice while it comes to a low boil. A low boil means that there are little bubbles beginning to come to the surface of the apple juice. While you are waiting for apple juice to come to a boil, carefully open the packages of unflavored gelatin and pour them into a large bowl. Pour the cold apple juice over the powdered gelatin and stir until it begins to dissolve. Let it rest on the counter for 2 minutes. This is called letting it “stand”. After two minutes, carefully pour the boiling apple juice into the bowl. Get your adult helper to guide you as you do this. Stir to make sure the gelatin is dissolved and the juice is all mixed up. This is called “stirring to combine”. Put the bowl into the refrigerator for about 30-45 minutes. Ask your adult helper to guide you in this and to hold open the door for you while you place it in the refrigerator. After 30-45 minutes, stir in the avocado and raisins. Carefully pour your gelatin into a 9x13 casserole or baking dish. Place casserole dish filled with gelatin back into the refrigerator until gelatin mixture is firm. Ask your adult helper to guide you as you take a plastic knife or a case knife and cut your gelatin into squares. Or if you wish you can take cookie cutters and press them into the gelatin to make fun cut out shapes.
