These are the basic ingredients of rice krispie treats, but much prettier.

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 30 large marshmallow (3 cups)
  • 1 1/2 ts green food coloring
  • 1 ts vanilla
  • 4 cups cornflakes
  • cinnamon redhot candies

Preparation

Step 1

Using a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and melt on low, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from the heat and whisk in the food coloring and vanilla extract until well blended. Stir in the cornflakes to coat completely. Keep the mixture warm by placing the pot in a large pot or saucepan with hot water.

Work quickly so the mixture doesn't harden. Using 2 spoons or grease fingers (I prefer fingers) drop mounds of about 1 tablespoon onto wax paper or parchment. Quickly form the mounds into wreaths with holes in the center. While they are still sticky, decorate withteh red hots. If you miss your window of opportunity to have the red hots stick, you can add them later using a dab of Royal Icing.
Store airtight.

Tip:
Don't melt the marshmallows in the microwave unless you have a huge bowl, they swell!
