Ingredients

  • For Bread Starter:
  • friend's bread starter
  • 2 cups flour, divided
  • 2 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 cups milk, divided
  • For Final Bread:
  • 2/3 cup oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 small box vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Note: Do not use metal spoon or container. Do not refrigerate.

Day 1: Do nothing on the day you receive starter. (Be sure to find out from your friend what do it is. You may be receiving the starter on a day other than 1).

Day 2, 3, 4: stir each day with a wooden spoon.

Day 5: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Stir. Put into a large container.

Day 6, 7, 8, 9: Stir each day with a wooden spoon.

Day 10: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Pour 1 cup of mixture into each of 3 small containers to give to three friends along with a copy of these instructions.

To the remaining cup of mixture, add all other ingredients for final bread. Using a wooden spoon, mix well and pour into 2 well-greased and sugared loaf pans or 1 tube or Bundt pan. Bake at 350 F for 40 - 50 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing.
