True Belgian Waffles
By Addie
It was on a visit to my husband's relatives in Belgium that I was given this recipe. Back in the U.S., I served the waffles to his Belgian-born grandmother. She said they tasted just like home. Our grandkids love these waffles with any kind of topping: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, fried apples, powdered sugar or whipped topping. —Rose Delemeester, St. Charles, Michigan

DELISH!! ESPECIALLY AFTER MAKING ALL PREVIOUS WAFFLES W/BISQUICK.
I PUT THE SOLID BUTTER IN THE MILK AND MELTED IT IN THE MILK IN THE MICROWAVE.
Not a fan cut recipe in half. Too heavy. Will look for another recipe!
This is the only waffle recipe that I make. I have it bookmarked and I've made them 4 times. Each time they turn out great! The only thing I do differently is just warming up the milk so it doesn't solidify the butter. I love this recipe so much! thank you so much for posting it! :)
I received a waffle maker for Christmas and never made waffles before. This was the first recipe I made and thought it was delicious. Since then, I've been on the search for other waffle recipes and none of them have turned out as good as this one. So far this one is the best! It's a bit on the sweet side so I just added less sugar though, but other than that it's great. I'm sticking with this recipe.
First time I have ever made Belgian waffles..got a Cuisinart for my birthday :) These were sooooo good!! My whole family loved them! I was afraid it would be more difficult, but it wasn't. Took a little time, but well worth it! after reading the other comments, I did warm the milk..but apparently not enough, because the butter did congeal, but it blended right in very easily. Thank you for making my experience so yummy!
It made about half the amount of waffles it states when I made it, but other than that, it's pretty perfect. I've tried several other recipes and find they are too eggy or don't rise well or are too dense. These are light and fluffy but didn't leave me feeling hungry after I had finished. I do think I'll add a touch of cinnamon to the batter next time though.
The taste is amazing, but the texture? Well, these are heavy, not light and fluffy like whipped egg whites suggest. Too much trouble for what it was worth. I doubled the recipe for my daughter's sleepover and they all loved them. I was not impressed.
Excellent kids loved them!
Best we've tried yet!
My daughter, niece and grand niece love this. We use all sorts of toppings and a variety flavors of syrups. My favorite is waffles extra crispy with MS. Butterworth syrup (80-90 degrees F).
The only thing we did differently was split the recipe in half, and we weren't a fan. We usually just use Bisquick, but we're out. I'll be trying a different recipe next time. This seemed too cakey? I don't know the right term, but my husband and I would have rather just used Bisquick I think. Always fun to try new recipes though. Thanks.
My family love it!
My husband loves belgian waffles so he just got a belgian waffle maker for his birthday. This is the recipe we tried and we don't need to try any others! Delicious!! I forgot to heat the milk as others suggested but I will next time. Excellent recipe!!
This recipe made the waffles flaky and were the perfect thickness. I added a peachy sweetness to it by blending: teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream, brown sugar and white sugar. Once all the ingredients were mixed, I added that wonderful blend and we didn't even need syrup. My boyfriend loved the entire recipe. Thanks for sharing such a great waffle recipe!
My husband always asks for these waffles on the weekend. They are great! Didn't change a thing.
The only waffles my family will eat! We make a batch and freeze the leftovers!
Same thing as another person mentioned, the recipe should call for heating up the milk so the butter doesn't re-solidify. You can't leave out those details.
This recipe is way too sweet. The waffles taste like a cookie. I prefer it less sweet because the toppings always make it sweeter.
These were delicious and filled the kitchen with the best aroma ever of home made waffles. I'm used to making waffles from a box but these were pretty easy to whip together. The batter, mine atleast, was a bit thicker than i expected but i went with it because it looked and smelled delicious. I mixed in two tbsp of milk in the last half of the batter for anyone who preferred fluffier waffles. I recommend doubling the recipe to get more full formed waffles out of your waffle iron (most of mine came short).
These waffles are delicious! They are so good they don't need syrup or butter.
The best waffles I ever ate and easy to make.
I'm sure this is user error, but when i added the milk to the melted butter, the butter resolidified! Should the milk be room temperature first?
These waffles are thick and fluffy and great!!!
Great flavor and texture! This is now my go to recipe when I'm making waffles!
Very easy to make. Waffles are very light & fluffy!
Good Recipe. We made this with banana foster!!
These were a hit with my entire family, including my dad who's a bit of a snob when it comes to food. This recipe went right into the family cookbook.
We love this recipe... I have made it multiple times and given the recipe to people as well! My 1 year old loves it with peanut butter too
