This recipe is from the newspaper, submitted by Gladys Spruill, of Chesapeake. I've since added my own specs to it.
It is a great recipe. Also a great way to get your family to have some fruit!

Ingredients

  • Buttermilk Sauce:
  • 1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsps. vanilla extract
  • 3 cups chopped apples
  • (pick baking apples)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts-pecans
  • 1 cup golden raisins
  • Fresh Whipped cream for serving
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda (key)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan.
In a large bowl,:mix oil, sugar,and eggs.
Add dry ingredients, then remaining ingredients.
Batter will be heavy!
Pour into your prepared bundt pan.
Bake in oven for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
When done, leave in pan and shake a bit so it becomes loose from side of pan and comes out clean.
Pour buttermilk sauce (recipe below) over cake and let cool in pan. Remove and serve with fresh whipped cream.

Buttermilk Sauce:
Mix milk, sugar, butter, vanilla extract and baking soda in small sauce pan. Boil for 2 minutes. Pour over cake while still in pan. Let cake soak up sauce.
When cool, carefully remove from pan onto a wire rack or serving platter. Add a dollop of fresh whipped cream to each serving.
