Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp tsp ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 T orange zest

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar till fluffy, add egg and continue to beat, add molasses, beat well. Whisk flour and all dry ingredients, then add to wet, then add zest. Form a ball. Turn the dough onto lightly dusted counter, divide dough into 2 and make disc shape. Wrap both with plastic, refrigerate 30 mins or overnight.
Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll out discs to 1/8 inch, and cut out shapes with cutters. Bake 350 oven middle rack, until lightly golden 6-8 mins. cool on wire racks.
