Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 6 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 can [10.75 oz] cream of chicken soup
  • salt/pepper
  • 3/4 lb swiss cheese, grated
  • french bread slices
  • melted butter
  • 1 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

1. preheat oven to 350F
2. melt 1/2 cup butter in skillet and cook until tender, about 15 minutes
3. transfer to a 2 quart dish but butter in bottom
4. combine soup, milk, salt, ppper and pour over onings and sprinke with cheese
5. dip 1 inch thick bread slices in melted butter on one side
6. arrange buttered side up over onions to cover completely
7. bake until browned, around 30 minutes
