  • 1 package (18.25 oz) chocolate cake mix with pudding
  • 1 cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs

Step 1

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mist a cake pan with vegetable oil spray, then dust it with flour. Shake out the excess flour and set the pan aside.

2. Place cake mix, sour cream, water, oil, vanilla, and eggs in a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer on low speed until the ingredients are incorporated, 1 minute. Increase mixer speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes and batter should look well combined. Place batter into
cake pan and in the oven.

3. Bake the cake until it springs back when lightly pressed with a finger, 28 to 32 minutes. Let the cake cool completely, 20 minutes longer.

4. Spread the cake with the frosting and smooth it out.
