  • 2 c rye flour
  • 1/2 c lard (or coconut oil)
  • 1/2 c molasses
  • 3/4 c brown sugar
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1 qt boiling water
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1/2 c lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • white flour



Step 1

Combine rye flour, lard, brown sugar molasses & salt; pour over this boiling water; beat until smooth; then cool. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and sugar. When mixture is cool put together and add white flour until the right batter for bread. Knead once, let rise, punch down and rise again, make into loaves. Makes 4 loaves
