Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup soft butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 5 1/2 - 6 cups flour

Step 1
Measure water into large mixing bowl and dissolve 1 tsp sugar.
Sprinkle yast over top and let sit 10 minutes then stir well.
Heat milk to scalding and remove from heat.
Add butter, sugar, and salt and stir until butter is half melted. Cool to lukewarm.
Add to yeast with egg and half of flour and beat well.
Add enough flour to make soft dough and turn out onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic.
Let rise until double, about 1 1/2 hours.
Punch down and let rise again for 45 minutes.
Bake at 400 F for 12 - 15 minutes.
Brush with melted butter.
