Ingredients

  • Cookie:
  • 1 c. butter, melted
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • Topping:
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 2 pkgs. milk chocolate chips
  • 1 c. toasted almonds, finely chopped (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 17x11 baking sheet and line with parchment paper; overlapping the 2 ends for easy removal.
Cookie:
Beat butter, sugars, vanilla and water until smooth. Add remaining 3 ingred. and beat until mixture is combined.
Spread dough to cover prepared baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven 15 min.
Topping:
Meanwhile, over med. heat bring butter and brown sugar to a boil. Stir to combine. Spread mixture over partially bake cookie dough. Return to oven and bake another 8 min until caramel is bubbling.
Remove from oven, immediately sprinkle choc. chips over hot caramel. Wait 5 min. and spread melted choc. over cookie. If using nuts, sprinkle over chocolate.
Cool in refrigerator until choc. is set. Once at room temp., break or cut cookie slab into irregular pieces or into cookie cutter shapes.
Can be frozen.
