  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar or molasses
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp shortening

Step 1

In large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
Add honey, half of whole wheat and white flours, salt, and melted shortening.
Beat 2 minutes.
Blend in remaining flour until smooth.
Cover and allow to rise in warm place till doubled in size (abour 30 minutes).
Stir down by beating 25 strokes.
Spread batter in greased loaf pan and pat into shape.
Let rise about 40 minutes.
Bake 45-50 minutes at 375 F
