Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 egg whites
  • Walnuts or pecan (if desired)

Preparation

Step 1

MIX:
Sugar, syrup and water together in sauce pan over medium heat until sugar melts
Cook until the mixture spins a thread.

Beat:
Egg whites into stiff peaks

Pour:
1/3 of the syrup into the stiffly beaten egg whites.

Put the remainding syrup back on stove and cook until the "crack stage" using candy thermometer.

Pour:
This mixture into egg mixture and beat until mixture stiffens.

Cool then add vanilla and nuts.

Add food coloring for more festive appearance.

Pour into a greased pan

when cooled completely, cut and serve.
