Ingredients

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 4 tbs sugar
  • 2 pkgs dry yeast
  • 14 cups flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tbs sugar
  • 1 rounded tbs salt
  • 1 stick margarine

Preparation

Step 1

Measure warm water and 4 tbs sugar in large warm bowl. Sprinkle in yeast. Stir in until dissolved. Add 3 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Cover and let raise in warm place until light and spongy, about 30 minutes.

Scald milk, stir in remaining sugar, salt, and margarine. Cool to lukewarm.

Stir sponge down and add lukewarm milk mixture and stir together. Add enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough.

Cover and let raise until double, about 30 minutes. Punch down and shape into 4 loaves.

Place in greased and floured loaf pans, cover and let raise once again.

Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or if you are using glass loaf pans, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Remove from pans and lightly spread margarine over tops of hot bread when taken out of oven.
