Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil or melted butter
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted

Grease well two 1-pint straight-sided, wide mouth canning jars; flour the greased jars. Set aside.
In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder, apple pie spice, and salt. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture; set aside.
In a small bowl combine brown sugar, oil, eggs, and applesauce; mix well. Add applesauce mixture all at once to the flour mixture. Stir just until moistened. Stir in walnuts.
Divide mixture between the prepared canning jars. Cover the jars tightly with greased foil, greased side in. Place the jars in a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker. Pour 1/2 cup warm water into the cooker around the jars.
Cover; cook on high-heat setting about 1 3/4 to 2 hours or until a long wooden skewer inserted near the center comes out clean. Remove jars from cooker; cool 10 minutes. Carefully remove bread from jars. Serve warm.
