Ingredients

  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 7 cups flour, 7-8
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 head cabbage, finely shredded
  • salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

1. Place yeast and milk in a bowl. Let sit 5 mins. Add sugar-butter. Gradually add flour until dough pulls together into a ball. Knead until smooth, 4-5 mins. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until double.

2. Punch down and let rise again.

3. Halfway through second rising, brown beef. Add cabbage, cook until softened. Season - will take lots of sla and pepper.

4. Divide dough into thirds. Roll out to 1/4" thickness. Cut each third into 5-6" squares. Give each square an extra roll Place a mound of filling in center. Pull opposite corners or dough together and pinch. Pull other corners together, pinch to seal. Place seam side down on parchment-lined sheets 1" apart.

5. Cover and let rise 15 mins. Bake at 350 for 15-20 mins, until golden. Rub with butter, cool on rack.

Notes: Freeze well

These were good, but not runzas! Fairly easy to make and freeze and will be nice to have in the freezer, but will keep trying other recipes.
