Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup onions -- chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 3 medium tomatoes -- peeled, seeded, chpd
- 2 medium cooking apples -- peeled, cored, chpd
- 1 can green chilies
- 1/2 cup seedless raisins
- 10 pimento-stuffed green olives -- sliced
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- salt, pepper
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Preparation
Step 1
Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over high heat.
Add ground beef and brown, stir in onions and garlic.
Reduce heat to moderate and cook 5 minutes.
Add tomatoes, apples, chilies, raisins, olives, and spices.
Simmer over low heat 20 minutes.
In small skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat, add almonds and saute 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
Drain on paper towel and stir into ground meat mixture just before serving.
Use as a main dish with rice and beans, or as a filling for empanadas, tamales, poblano peppers, or tacos.
