Ingredients
- Butter Dough:
- Brownie Square
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 10 1/2 ounces fine-quality bittersweet chocolate
- (not unsweetened)
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
- 3 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups walnuts, toasted and coarsely chopped

- baked about 30 minutes at 375 degrees and cooled
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 sticks unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla

Step 1
Brownie Square:
In a heavy saucepan combine, butter, brown sugar and chocolate. Melt over medium heat stirring occasionally till smooth.Remove from heat, let cool a few minutes. Whisk in lightly beaten eggs and vailla. Add your salt. Then add flour and cocoa. Nuts if using. Mix well.Pour into prebaked baked butter cookie crust. Spread brownie batter evenly until smooth Bake until set, 20 minutes or so at 375. Cool and cut into squares.
Butter Cookie Dough
Whisk together the flour, baking powder,
and salt in a small bowl.
In a large bowl,
beat the butter and sugar
at medium high speed
until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Reduce speed to low
and add in flour mixture until just combined.
At this point,
depending on the recipe,
you do one of two things:
either halve the recipe and put each half in a container,
cover and refrigerate
OR
halve the recipe and press evenly into
2 9 x 13 baking dishes,
buttered, then lined with buttered foil.
