Ingredients

  • First Layer:
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 apples, peeled and sliced
  • Batter:
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • two egg jokes
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

Preparation

Step 1

1. In two 9 inch pie plates or one 13 x 9" baking dish, melt butter in a 400°F oven, about two minutes. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over butter; bake for two minutes.
2. Arrange sliced apples over top; bake for 10 minutes.
3. Combine flour and baking powder in bowl; blend in egg yolks and milk.
4. In a large bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually beat in sugar until stiff peaks form. Fold into milk mixture; spread evenly over apples.
5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven; loosen edges with knife and invert onto serving plate.
