Ingredients

  • 3

    cups flour

  • 2

    teaspoons baking soda

  • 1

    teaspoon salt

  • 1

    teaspoon ginger

  • 1

    teaspoon cinnamon

  • 3/4

    cup evaporated milk

  • 3/4

    tablespoon vinegar

  • 1/2

    cup molasses

  • 1

    cup shortening

  • 1

    cup sugar

  • 1

    egg

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F degrees Stir together 1st five ingredients - flour, baking soda, salt, ginger and cinnamon. Set aside. 2. Combine milk and vinegar in a measuring cup and set aside. 3. Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly using an electric mixer. Add the molasses and egg and beat well. 4. Add the evaporated milk and vinegar alternately with the dry ingredients to the creamed shortening. Mix well. 5. Drop from spoon onto greased baking sheet leaving 3/4 inch between cookies. 6. Bake at 375°F until slightly brown on edges or about 10 minutes, depending on size of the cookies. Watch carefully to avoid over cooking. Big cookies add 1-2 minutes bake time. 7. Remove with a spatula to a wire rack and cool.
