Preparation
Step 1
Measure your cream and buttermilk and place it in a jar. Mix.
Now take a paper towel, coffee filter, cheese cloth, or light weight cloth and drape it over your cream/buttermilk mixture. Place in a warm (NOT HOT) location for 12-24 hours. (My oven has a warm setting so I heated my oven to warm, turned it off, and placed my mixture in the oven overnight).
In the morning I had sour cream
Cover and refrigerate! This will be the best tasting sour cream and should last a minimum of 1 week.
Notes:
If your kitchen is cool it will take longer for the sour cream to set up. Your area needs to be at least 70 degrees F.
If you do not have buttermilk, you can substitute the following
Place 1/4 cup milk and 3/4 tsp of distilled vinegar in a bowl. Allow this to sit 10 minutes.
