Ingredients

  • Remaining Crumb Mixture:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cupbutter or margarine
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1-2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups (2 medium) peeled, finely chopped apples

Step 1

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Combine first 3 ingredients in large bowl. Blend at low speed until fine crumbs form. Stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cup of mixture firmly into ungreased 13 x9 inch or 15 x 10 inch pan.

Into remaining crumb mixture, combine cinnamon, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg. Blend well. Stir apples into batter. Spoon evenly over crumb base.

Bake at 350 degrees (13 x 9 or 30-40 min) (15 x 10 for 25-35 min) or until toothpick comes out clean. cool before cutting into squares or bars. Top with whipped cream or powdered sugar if desired. Store loosely covered.
