Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef (preferably organic, grass fed)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 4-6 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 1 quart tomato sauce (I use home-canned. If buying, make sure no salt is added.)
  • 1-2 cup cherry tomatoes (cut in half, lengthwise)
  • 1-2 cup fresh mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 heaped tablespoon basil
  • 1 heaped tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary

Preparation

Step 1

In a large pot, add ground beef, onion, red pepper, and garlic. Cook all over med-high heat until beef is browned. (No need to drain).

Add tomato sauce, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms.

Stir in salt and remaining herbs. Bring to boil.

Cover and reduce heat to simmer. Cook 5-6 hours, stirring occasionally.

Near the end of cooking time, remove lid. Sauce should not have liquid before serving. If needed, turn up to med-high while stirring and continue until all liquid has evaporated and you are left with a thick, meaty sauce.
