Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 3/4 c. molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • Powdered sugar icing

Preparation

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter on medium-high speed for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt & cloves. Beat until combined, scaping bowl. Beat in molasses and eggs. Beat in as much flour as you can. Stir in the remaining flour. Stir baking soda into sour cream, then stir sour cream mixture into flour mixture (batter will be sticky). Use ¼ c. measure or scoop to drop mounds of dough about 4” apart onto to greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375º F. for 9-12 mins. or until cookies spring back when lightly touched. Don’t overbake! Cool on wire rack and frost with icing when cool.

Icing: Combine 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 Tbls. milk and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Stir in additional milk, 1 tsp. at a time, until spreading consistency.
