Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons margarine
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 envelope active dry yeast
  • 1 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted margarine
  • 5/8 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Plus another 1/2 cup melted margarine

Preparation

Step 1

1. Scald milk, t hen add margarine, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm.

2. Meanwhile, dissolve 1 tsp. sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast. Let st and about 10 min then stir.

3. Combine milk mixture with eggs, then stir in yeast.

4. Add 4 to 5 cups of flour and beat well for 10 minutes. Gradually add more flour to make soft dough. Finish by kneading until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl and cover with damp cloth. Let rise in warm place until double in size (about 1 hour).

5. Meanwhile, make filling and set aside.

6. Punch down and turn out onto lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half.

7. Roll out each half into 9 x 18 inch rectangle. Sprinkle on filling and roll up like a jelly roll starting from the long side. Cut into 2 inch slices. Repeat with other half of dough.

8. Place remaining melted margarine into bottom of 16 ½ x 11 ½ x 2 ½ inch pan.*

9. Arrange slices in pan, cut side down, and loosely cover with greased wax paper.

10. Let rise in pan until double in size, about 45 - 60 minutes.**

11. Bake at 350F for 35 to 45 minutes.

12. Remove from oven and immediately invert onto serving tray.
