Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 heaping tsp. cocoa
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • Icing:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 box confectioner's sugar
  • 1 2/3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 1/2 tbsp coffee

Step 1

Cake:
Cream shortening, butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add dry ingredients and mix, alternating with the milk. Add vanilla. Bake in a bundt cake pan 325 degree for about an 1 hour 20 minutes.

Icing:
Mix all ingredients except the coffee. Add that last and slowly, to make sure your icing isn't too runny. I usually flip the cake and let it cool about 20-30 minutes. Then ice the cake. Start at the top as, if the cake is still warm, the icing will melt down the side.

If you have people who don't like the coffee taste, you can use milk or water as a substitute.
