Ingredients
- Cake
- 1/2 Cup Shortening
- 1 1/2 Cup White Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 2 tblsp Cocoa
- 2 oz. Red Food Coloring
- 2 1/2 Cup Cake Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
- 1 tsp Soda
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Vinegar
- Frosting
- 1 Cup Butter
- 1 Cup Milk
- 1 Tblsp Vanilla
- 1 Cup White Sugar
- 3 Tblsp Flour

Preparation
Step 1
Cake
Cream shortening, eggs, and sugar. Make paste of cocoa and part of food coloring. Add this and rest of coloring to creamed mixture. Sift flour and salt together and add alternately with buttermilk. Add vinegar. Stir in soda and canilla. Mix well. Pour into well greased round cake pans. Bake for 30 minutes at 350.
Frosting
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, add vanilla. Cook milk and flour until think and then cool. Gradually add cooled milk mixture to butter mixture beating constantly. Spread between cooled cake layers.
Serve cake chilled.
