Ingredients

  • 130 g flour (plus additional for dusting your work surface)
  • 265 ml warm water
  • 2 teaspoons fast action yeast
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 - 10 slices salami or pepperoni
  • 6-10 slices mozzarella
  • 6 tablepoons pizza sauce

Step 1

Mix the brown sugar in the warm water until completely dissolved then add the yeast. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes until bubbling.

Give the yeast/water/sugar mixture a little stir and add it to the flour in a mixing bowl.

Mmix on a low speed with a dough hook and add the oil little by little.

When the dough has formed a smooth ball (about 5 minutes into mixing), remove from the mixing bowl and place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea towel or cling film and allow to rise for about 40 minutes or until doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 205C (fan oven).

Once the dough has doubled in size, knead on a floured surface for a couple of minutes.

Take a piece of dough about the size of an orange and roll it into a long strip about 5 inches wide and 15 inches long.

Spoon some of the pizza sauce along the dough, top with cheese and salami leaving a gap along each length of the dough.

Fold each long side of the dough over and then twist to form a sort of twisted rope.

Tie the "rope" in a loose knot, place on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and lightly oiled then let rise a for another 15 minutes.

Bake for about 20 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
