Ingredients

  • Sauce:
  • 2 large cans (29 oz) Tutorossa tomato puree
  • 3 large cans (29 oz) Tutorossa whole tomatoes
  • 1 T salt
  • 2 1/2 T sugar
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp dried basil or freshly chopped basil
  • Meatballs:
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3/4 c seasoned Italian bread crumbs
  • 3/4 c romano cheese
  • 1/2 c chopped parsley
  • salt/pepper
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 7 jumbo eggs
  • Spareribs
  • Sausage
  • Peeled hard boiled eggs

Preparation

Step 1

Put the whole tomatoes in the food processor to crush. Mix all the sauce ingredients in large kettle. Mix beef and pork. Beat the eggs and add to meat. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Form into meat balls and brown lightly in about 1/2 inch of olive oil. Add meatballs to sauce. Brown pork and sausage and add to sauce. Add about 1/2 c hot oil to sauce. Simmer sauce for about 1 hour covered and 1 hour uncovered, stirring constantly to make sure sauce doesn't burn.

Hard boil eggs, peel and add to sauce during the last 5-10 minutes. Makes enough for freezing.
