Basic bread pudding recipe. Instead if using Brandy to soak, other liquors can be used such as rum, cognac, Grand Marnier, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 loaf of French, Challah, or Hawaiian
  • 1 cup milk, whole
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 orange zest
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

Step 1

Soak raisins in Brandy. Cut bread into 1/2 inch cubes and toast in oven.

Preheat oven to 325 and butter a loaf pan.

In a large bowl beat together the milk, cream, eggs,sugar, cinnamon, zest, and vanilla extract. Add cubed bread and combine. Add raisins and pecans and fold into mixture.

Pour into baking dish, place in middle rack, and bake until browned and set about 1 hr. When baking cover with foil and then remove after 45 min. Pour some milk over top, sprinkle with sugar, and finish the last 15 min.
