Ingredients

  • POPPYSEED FILLING:
  • 3-1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
  • Rind of 1 lemon
  • Milk
  • 2 cups ground poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Cinnamon
  • APPLE FILLING:
  • 4 sliced applies
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

Mix 1-3/4 cups flour with butter. Refrigerate. Mix remaining flour with 2 egg yolks, whole egg, sour cream, vinegar and lemon rind. Add milk as needed to flour-egg mixture to make dough. Knead several minutes, then roll out. Place refrigerated mixture on rolled out dough, fold over, and again roll out. Do this several times, until mixtures are combined. This can be kept in refrigerator until ready to bake (several hours or overnight).

When ready to bake, cut dough in half. Roll out as for noodles or a little heavier. Cut into squares fill with favorite filling and shape into crescents or triangles. Brush tops with egg yolk. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until golden. Repeat for remaining half of dough.

Poppy Seed Filling:

Combine poppy seeds, milk, corn syrup, sugar, butter and cinnamon. Cook about 5 minutes until thick.

Apple Filling:

Mix and cook ingredients about 5 minutes until apples are soft.
