Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion
  • 2 tsp dill weed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups very warm water
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 eg white - slightly beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Mix 2 cups flour, yeast, onion, dill and salt in large bowl. Stir in water, oil and honey. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour, scraping side of bowl, to form soft dough. Cover and let rest about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet. Stir down dough by beating about 25 strokes, then turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and gently roll in flour to coat. Divide into 24 equal parts. Roll and shape each part into rope, about 9 inches long, sprinkling with flour if dough is too sticky.
Place ropes on a cookie sheet. Lightly brush with egg white. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.
