Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 C flour
  • 1 T baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 12 oz. bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 C walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 C Sambuca
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 C powdered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Melt chocolate with butter over double boiler. Lightly whisk eggs, nuts, Sambuca and sugar in another bowl/ Stir in flour mixture and chocolate. Chill until firm, 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350. Roll heaping T of dough into balls, and roll balls in powdered sugar. Place 2" apart on lightly buttered sheets. Bake in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching sheets halfway, until puffed and cracked, but centers still a bit soft, 10-12 minutes.
